July 2024: A Recap

I was organizing my calendar for the next few weekends and realized we’re now into August. Time sure flies! Before I load all activities D and I can do for this new month, I want to dedicate this post to the whirlwind of a month that was July.

July in the Philippines is usually when the monsoon season starts its full blast. It’s also one of the lull months for our travels because of the unpredictability of the weather. Like just the latter half of July, a typhoon brought about floods to my country, and most of us are getting back on our feet and helping however way we could because of the devastation that typhoon brought about.

July also happens to be a birthday month for D and many of our loved ones. Though we don’t book any kind of travels in July, our weekends were packed with get-togethers and indoor events.

In July I got to pick up on art for most of the weekends. Early in the month, I attended an acrylic painting workshop to brush up on my art. I also got to watch the Little Shop of Horrors musical. The production company staged in BGC, Taguig from July 6 to 28 and luckily, we got tickets before they were sold out. While my girlfriends who went with me knew the story, I didn’t so I went without any expectations and ultimately enjoyed the show.

The succeeding Saturday, I caught up with a girlfriend whom I have not seen since 2020, and, for the first time in over four years, we went to the cinema to watch a movie. I missed watching movies in the cinema! With the various streaming services on hand now, it still felt different watching the movie on the big screen, with my popcorn and all. Maybe it’s the surround sound, maybe it’s the nostalgic feels, or maybe it’s because for the full duration of the movie, I did not pick up my cellphone to check on it until the movie ended. It was also special watching it with my friend and talking about it over coffee and cake afterwards. We both missed doing this, so immediately afterwards we lined up our next movie dates.

Of course, theatre dates will not be complete without good food before or after the show. Here are some snapshots of the food my friends and I had when we caught up:

That, my friends, sums up my July. How did your July go?

I hope this month will be a good month for all of us.

The Japanese spreads look delectable, and the chirashi bowl more so! If I may ask, is that from Ichiba Market at Resorts World Manila?

Hi Monch! The chirashi bowl was from Koku in Legaspi Village, Makati. The Japanese rolls and chawanmushi is from Musashi Tei at One Ayala.

Watching a movie in the cinema is great. Yes, streaming is wonderful, too, but there’s nothing like a cinema with the big screen and popcorn!

Absolutely! I thought I wouldn’t ever step foot in a cinema, and now that I did I realized I missed it.

Thank you for sharing. We returned home from our daughter’s place in Germany after being there for month, on July 4th. The days that followed were about getting back to our routine. On the 28th our daughter and grandchildren came for the summer vacations. This 13th they are going to Bangalore to be with her in laws.

And just like that, we are already halfway through August! Which makes these monthly reflections so precious – keeping track, taking stock, identifying highlights.

Happy birthday to all the July babies! Wonderful opportunities for celebration!

Thanks Andy! I would love to feel some cold air now as it’s usually hot/wet and humid.
