August 2024: A Recap

Hello, September!

I hope your August went well. Mine, no surprise, just went by in a flash. Although I spent most of my August working, I give myself a pat on the back for balancing it with weekends that were wonderfully relaxing and enjoyable.

Since August here in my country is still a monsoon month, much like July, I planned indoor activities during the weekends. I enrolled in a watercolor basics workshop with Play Crafts Ph, where I finally dusted off my brushes, watercolor paper and pans. Heading to the workshop I was initially nervous as I’m quite rusty. I’m so glad our teacher Beth, guided us through the foundations of watercolor painting. We first practiced painting our own color wheel, then we tried the different techniques like the wet-on-dry, wet-on-wet, dry brush, layering and glazing. Finally, we painted a sunset scene, and I lost track of time chatting with the other participants while working on my painting. That workshop motivated me to set aside time for painting as it was a meditative experience.

Yesterday, I met up with a girlfriend from university days and we checked out the Big Bad Wolf book sale at Alabang, located at Metro Manila’s south. I intended to enjoy the company of my friend, but I ended up buying three books to add to my ever growing to-read list. I can never resist buying books (or e-books), and I really should go back to reading books before bedtime instead of watching social media videos. I hope I can start doing that more – I started last night!

That sums up my weekend highlights of August. Although I did not get to travel for leisure last month, the indoor activities and catch-up dates with friends were a refreshing change.

How did your August go?

It is rare to note you did not travel for leisure last month! As you say, catching up with other activities on home ground is a great thing as well!

Wondering if you might care to join us on The Changing Seasons, which Brian and I co-host. May I link you?

I read before sleep now, too. I’m actually sleeping better and easier. Cheers.

I admit it was hard to do at first but it does make sleeping better.

I love your art, I need to get back to painting. My August went really well even though I didn’t leave the state, lots of fairs, concerts and festivals took place in Portland this month: art, jazz and food trucks are the highlights of my summer.

Sounds like a fantastic summer! I wish we can have more concerts, art and festivals where I am but it’s hot and humid almost all year round.

Glad you got to visit the Big Bad Wolf expo! It was up north (at Trinoma mall) during the first half of August.

It’s always in my list to check out when they’re happening. I had to control myself from getting another haul 🫣
