Cambugahay Falls

Cambugahay Falls is a famous tourist destination situated in the municipality of Lazi, Siquijor.

So, motorbike rented, D and I drove from our Airbnb in San Juan to Lazi one weekday morning, with short stopovers at the 400-year old Balite tree and Lazi Convent along the way. We were greeted by friendly local tour guides, and Michael was our guide for the trip.

To get to the falls is just a short 135 steps downhill. The crystal clear waters immediately captivated me, and I was relieved to see that the falls was not packed with tourists.

For the first time ever, D and I tried swinging onto the falls. D was the more adventurous one, he climbed to the higher elevated swing. I took the kiddie swing: I thought it was such an adrenaline rush til I saw my video and saw my jump was indeed for kiddos. I did a total of 2 jumps, D completed three. I admired the younger folks jump like they didn’t have cares in the world, some guys even doing somersaults.

The pool was clean and the water was cool. The sound of the gushing falls was a delight to my ears. That, and the lush greens around me made me think Cambugahay Falls is a paradise on earth. This was definitely one of the best adventures I had in Siquijor – I hope the islands retains its rustic, unspoilt beauty for decades to come!
