Today I am sharing about this pretty artpiece I acquired via Etsy. I was on the lookout for something black and white and this watercolor painting immediately grabbed my attention as it had air of melancholy surrounding it. The painting is called ‘Expectation’. It was painted in 2021 by Halyna Kirichenko. Halyna uses different media, and she has diverse subjects. Prior to choosing this painting, I spent quite a bit of time trying to decide which one to get, as she has several nice pieces. The ones that caught my eye were women in monochrome, as well as the cityscapes in color. I could only get one, as I really have to reorganize my wall. Wall space at home’s getting tricky these days.

When I received this in the mail, I was touched as the artist wrote me a letter. She said it was her first time to ship a painting to the Philippines. She was so sweet she gave me a free gift! As with the painting’s title, my expectation was definitely met with this first online art purchase.

There’s a sense of rawness to these artworks. Simple, but also conveys a deeper meaning of sadness, potentially frustration and anger, as evident in the harsh strokes and blots. Definitely something to keep in mind when seeing such pieces of work!

You describe it well, Rebecca. I usually am lost for words when I gaze at these pieces, and can’t quite explain the different feelings they ignite in me.
