When D and I traveled abroad the first time together in 2006, we left all the planning to our travel agent, and the only thing we had to sort out was finalizing our leave dates. Over the years, we took on the planning which had evolved and became very detailed – from the selection of flights, hotels and restaurants, to the activities and day tours we could do. At first it was quite overwhelming, especially if our destinations require a visa. While there were countries that have online visa application, there are those that entail several days of us completing the visa requirements, plus an appearance to the embassy. I remember years ago there were moments of nervous anticipation as we awaited the decision if our visas were to be approved. Luckily some of the countries we frequently visit issued multiple year visas. Another thing we’re grateful for is that surrounding countries in Southeast Asia allow for visa-free visits from Philippine passport holders. One visa that remain complicated for us to process is the Schengen visa. I still need a proper, uninterrupted time to go through and complete their checklist for every visit we have to the Schengen countries. While getting the travel requirements may take time, I find planning for a trip exciting. This is actually something I look forward to doing outside work.
Our first big trip is in March. This one was supposed to be for last October, but because of a delay in getting our visa, we had to move our trip. In preparation for that trip D and I will have mini hikes in the upcoming weekends. Hopefully we can conquer some easy climb spots near Metro Manila. I got to get my cardio on track.
