Admiring Hydrangeas

In late May of this year, I was walking home from my office in Tokyo to the hotel I was staying at in Ginza when my attention was drawn by this particular flower. It literally made me stop and stare in awe at how pretty it was.

Not minding the people walking past me, I took my time taking photos and videos, and was pleased there was another bunch of these but of a different color nearby.

Using Google Lens I found these beautiful flowers are Hydrangeas. I read that they typically grow late spring to early autumn and are more abundant in East Asia like Japan, Korea and China.

Flowers always fascinate me, and now I can say I am in love with these hydrangeas. It was my first time to see them and I am amazed with the variety of colors. When I posted it in my social media stories my cousin who lives in the southern part of the Philippine archipelago said she sees them in Mt Apo in Mindanao (also the tallest mountain in the Philippines) and in Mt Kanlaon (an active volcano in Visayas, Philippines).

Imagine my joy when I saw an indoor hydrangea garden in Haneda International Airport when I was about to fly back home to Manila. My business trip to Tokyo couldn’t have ended more perfectly.

I love hydrangeas; we have many growing here. They bloom so profusely and last so well, too, with such varieties of colour and shape. Lovely photos. 😊
