After an almost full day of train travel from Italy, we arrived at Interlaken, Switzerland, ready to soak in its charm. Though exhausted, we hurriedly dropped our luggage at our accommodation and set off to cover as much ground while the sun was still out.

Our first stop was Höhematte Park, where we spent a few minutes to watch paragliders land from the sky. This was the main thing that got me researching more about Interlaken. I was inspired to go to Switzerland when I watched a tv show set here back in 2020. Though I don’t have plans to paraglide myself, I am very much contented watching them from below.

Following the flow of small tourist crowds, D and I wandered down Hoheweg, a lively street lined with shops. We explored the streets and saw pretty buildings and the Casino Kursaal.

Our plan was to rent bikes from a shop we found on Google Maps, but when we arrived, we discovered all the bikes were already rented out. Undeterred, D and I decided to explore Interlaken on foot.
As we strolled, we were captivated by the turquoise waters of the Aare River. The river connects Lake Thun and Lake Brienz.

Our walk led us to the Reformierte Schlosskirche, a beautiful Catholic church and one of the oldest buildings in Interlaken. It has a clock tower and is commonly referred to as “Castle Church”. We entered for a quick prayer of gratitude for our safe journey to Switzerland. Just outside, we found a well-maintained pocket garden at Schlosspark, a serene spot adding to the beauty of the surroundings.

With sunset approaching, we set off to the main destination of the day, the Brienzersee Lakewalk, located about 3km from Schlosspark. The walk there was a delight as we passed by a picturesque monastery and scenic mountain views.

We arrived just in time to see a ferry pulling away from the shore. We breathed in the fresh air and gazed at the beautiful Lake Brienz before us. Ducks playfully followed us along as we explored the lakewalk. A few minutes later, a light drizzle began to fall, a signal for us to head back home.

On the way, we stopped at Aldi Suisse to pick up some food for the next few days.It was a budget-friendly tip for traveling in Switzerland, as dining out can quickly add up.
Back at Arnold’s Bed and Breakfast we settled in for the night. We were excited for tomorrow, as it would be a full day of exploring nearby destinations.
